' XOLOTL '

2018

Mexican artist Jade Midori finds inpiration in symbolism and mystery & in exploring different cultural & historical narratives.
The mural is based around The Mexican Naked Dog ``Xolotl`` which is a spiritual being that is important for both the living and the dead.

The painting is full of mysticism, spiritualism and symbolism and depicts Xolotl, who is both a god from Aztec mythology (often depicted as a dog) and a dog breed – the Mexican naked dog.

The smoke around the dog symbolizes a traditional incense that is part of Mexican history and tradition.

In the Mexican folk tradition, the god Xolotl plays an important role in that he has tasks that concern both life and death;

He is a guide for the people on their arduous journey to the realm of the dead / the underworld, he is responsible for protecting the rising and setting of the sun and is also mentioned in several creation stories.
